Rubbish collection Collection day for Hatley St George and East Hatley is Thursday – or Friday in weeks when there is a bank holiday . The District Council, which is responsible for collecting and disposing of our rubbish, asks that refuse be placed out by 7.00 am on collection day. However, it is very unusual for it to be collected before 8.00 am, so don't panic (although the green box collectors are here not long after this time). What to put in your wheelie bins and green boxes All forms of compostable kitchen waste – including rotten fruit, old tea bags and coffee filters – can be put into your green wheelie bins. This is as well as the usual grass cuttings, leaves, prunings and clippings, untreated wood and bark, cardboard, catalogues, shredded paper and yellow pages, brown paper; rabbit and guinea pig waste and windfall fruit. Textiles should NOT be placed in the green bin or box – please take them to a recycling centre, such as the Oxfam one in Gamlingay. |

Visit www.recap.co.uk Recycling credits By using the green box kerbside recycling scheme, it is estimated that an average household will be recycling 33% of its waste, 'helping to save valuable resources, protect the environment and support the local community'. Parish councils and community groups currently receive £5.85 for every tonne of material collected under the green box scheme. This is a proportion of the money saved in not having to landfill the recycled material. The more material recycled, the larger the community payments.
