Zoomed PC meeting success

Margot Eagle re-elected as chairman, too

Hatley Parish Council, 21st May 2019 - L/R: Nicola Jenkins, Harold Nickerson, Micky Astor (Deputy Chairman), Alan Pinney (Chairman), Margot Eagle and Kim Wilde (Clerk).

History was made at 7.00 pm on Tuesday, 19 May 2020 when Hatley Parish held its first public meeting via video link.

And once everyone had remembered to click on their ‘live video’ button, everything was ready for the off, with Margot Eagle, who hosted the meeting on behalf of the Parish Council, checking we were all ready and Councillor Nicola Jenkins, who joined in using her phone, could hear okay.

Joining the meeting in addition to the five councillors – Alan Pinney (chairman), Micky Astor (vice chairman), Margot Eagle, Nicola Jenkins and Harold Nickerson – and Kim Wilde (parish clerk) were Rev’d Hilary Young, County Councillor Sebastian Kindersley, District Councillor Heather Williams and two parishioners.

Alan Pinney welcomed everyone and proceeded through the agenda for part one of the meeting – the Annual Parish Meeting, which included six reports on aspects of Hatley for the council’s year (1 April 2019 to 31 March 2020) and individual county and district reports (go to our reports section for copies – some are still to be loaded).

Part two of the meeting was the council’s Annual General Meeting – the highlight being a change of chairman: Alan Pinney, who has ‘been in post’ (and done an excellent job) for the last 12 months, stepped down, with Margot Eagle taking over for a second term.  Micky Astor continues as vice chairman, with Alan, Nicola and Harold all remaining as members of the parish council.

“The meeting went remarkably well considering how new some of us are to meeting online,” said Margot afterwards.

“It seems fairly clear that as lockdown develops and life continues to change and move on, we may still be encouraged to meet virtually rather than physically – if our next scheduled meeting on 14th July takes place via Zoom, I urge you to join us and see for yourselves what a pleasant experience it can be.

“However, the PC still hopes to welcome you back to Village Hall meetings in the not too distant future.”

Minutes of the APM / AGM will be added to the ‘Minutes‘ page of this site as soon as they are available.
